Life is...

Today my drive to work took 3 HOURS and 5 minutes. No kidding. There was a tractor trailer accident with a car that shut down the highway for 5 hours, and I was stuck between my exit and the exit for my school, which happens to be the last exit open on the shut-down highway. It was surreal. I was on the highway, a stretch of barely 2 1/2 miles, for two hours and 40 minutes. And then another 25 just to get to my school (because EVERYBODY had to exit my exit to find their way wherever they were going further south.) It really felt like I was in a disaster movie. Insane. A fellow colleague who lives further north that I do (thus, further from school), took 4 hours+ to get to school. I was shaking when I got to school.

So that threw me off a bit. But you know, it happens. There were several faculty members behind me, so I was not alone. It's weird that I still felt guilty - like I was doing something wrong. But I wasn't. I wish I had been.

I just finished a really great book. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society is just an exquisite read. I finished it Tuesday night, and then last night I MISSED it. That was a funny feeling. The title makes it sound like a book my mom would want to read, like a Ya-Ya Sisterhood or something, but it's nothing like that. It's about a little town on the Channel Islands that were occupied by the Germans during WWII, and the society itself is not really the story - it's a series of correspondences between a journalist and her publisher, her friends, and the members of the society. There are haunting moments as we read the letters of the accounts of each individual with the war, and there is romance in it (not overtly - very subtle... hopeful... realistic!) It's just a great book, and I think it will make a very good movie someday (I don't know if the rights have been bought, but I could see it in my head, the whole way through.)

Just wanted to share that I'm still here - still having adventures on the highway and reading good books. I also just received, today, LOST season 4, and I'm about about to watch Iron Man (right NOW), and The Dark Knight should be delivered any minute now. Life is... good. :)

Carlen ~ You are so funny! This is great writing.

And that sounds like one hairy heck of a commute! Yikes! Looks like you are compensated today, however, with a SNOW DAY! Enjoy, babe.

Hey! What a nightmare journey! I was once stuck on a train in the dead of winter for 6 hours before they herded us off down the tracks like cattle. They kept saying even though the electricity was switched off, "please dont touch the metal bits...just in case!"

Hope you enjoy The Dark Knight...I loved it!
